How the band was formed
The first two members, Michael and Richard, first met on a monday morning
in geography class in 1999. Richard asked Michael if he could borrow his book to copy up, Michael was
hesitant at first but reluctantly gave the book, the rest is history. The boys met the other members Clanger in 2002
and Daryl in 2004.
My Emu was created on february 19th 2004. The band was formed when the three boys, at
the time in another band named Leto, decided to try writing their own upbeat songs because they had different ideas of
what type of songs they would be writing in the other band. Thus My emu was born.
The band originally included Richard Llewellyn, Michael Lomax and Clanger
on drums, but silly issues meant that My Emu would have to find another drummer. The original members, Richard and Michael,
continued to practice hard on their own up the Cilfrew post office for a few months but Liam has since proven he
is dedicated to the band and now the band has decided to recruit him again. The fourth and final member,
Daryl, joined the band a few months after it was formed because the rest of the band thought they could experiement more with
two guitarists.
The band is influenced by bands such as Blink 182, The Used, Funeral For A Friend,
Underoath, Eighteen Visions, The Spill Canvas, My Chemical Romance, Atreyu, Fightstar, Fall Out Boy, Hidden In Plain View,
Bullet For My Valentine, The Starting Line, Thursday, Thrice, Yellowcard and even Metallica.
Why My emu?
Nobody really knows why the band decided to call themselves "My Emu", rumour has
it that Liam took it from the music genre emo and changed the letter "o" to "u", other rumours include:
- Clanger saw a download for msn emoticons which was called "myemo" and he
thought an emo was a bird. Michael told him that it was actually called an emu so my emu was made. It was made by an accident,
how silly.
- Michael is a zoophile and dreams of intercourse with emus.
- There are no other reasons. The 1st reason is the proper one. Twang.
